Artist Statement

“We are witnesses to dramatic climate change. Yet, there are some who insist that it’s not happening. My work consists of original and found vintage black and white photos. I collage and then embroider these images with massive vines, three dimensional invasive trees, crumbling rocks, dramatic stormy skies, floods and fire to create familiar, but hostile environments. In my smaller pieces, vintage snapshots are embroidered with colorful natural elements that obscure or reveal the photo’s original subjects. People pose in these photos, unaware of the creeping vegetation or water swirling around their feet. Much like climate change deniers, the people in these photos ignore how nature will rule and continue to flourish, even without us.”
